Humble feature request: auto create pattern(s)

Post by nikto »

Have you ever faced this:

You're jamming away with a VSTi, and at some point the ideas you're looking for finally start flowing, but then DANG - you run out of patterns to record into. You have to stop, manually create as many empty patterns as you seem to be needing, push song end marker way further, and ... by that moment, more often that not those ideas you had literally on the tips of your fingers, are gone.
And then you restart your jamming, and run out of patterns again. And again.

How wonderful it would be, if you could set the VST machine to 'auto create patterns with nn length'. The newly created pattern should not be necessarily placed in the sequencer immediately.

What would the esteemed community say as to how much work such feature implementation would amount to?

Yeah, would be good if Buzz could just notice that you're recording and are running out of pattern and keep adding new patterns as necessary. Not sure how it would work in reality though.

Sounds like a good idea.

To save time in the mean time:
You can also start a new bmx and add only one instance of pvsti and add patterns to it till "the limits of RSI". (so there's not much of a chance you run out of time)
Then save it, and import it to the track you want your recording in. (or save as .xml template)
Then load the vsti in pvsti and hit it's overwrite button, so if you still have not enough patterns, it will start recording at the start of the loop again.
This way you only have to add a big amount of patterns just once. And you can also import in the same song..

alternate feature:
rightclick sequence editor: add x (10.000) patterns of x length from here...

...and then a warning: "It will take 2 months to finish your recording (not recomended)." :geek:

Well, since there's already ableton-like pattern launcher, it only makes sense to enable recording a pattern and expanding it as you record. (You can set the pattern size limit, after which the pattern stops expanding and the new pattern is automatically created.)

Take any DAW, there's no 'create a new MIDI clip of size X to record into', right? The clip is auto-created as you push 'record' and it expands as you go.

Would be good to have pattern slice / glue then.

Would also be nice to start recording as you press the first note.
