Combo Compo [submissions pls!]

I was thinking that it might be fun to have a small music competition in the style of the old samplepack tracking competitions, but given we have buzz and it's awesome templating function there is one way to do it!

Code: Select all

   "everyone contributes a template" compo.

Anyone who wants to enter has to contribute a template until a limit is reached, say 5-10, and then the compo starts and you have a week to finish. You have to use at least 1 template in a recognisable form, but that template can be yours and it doesn't need to be exactly the same. Participants should have the right to use all samples in their templates, and be clear if any licence (ie, Creative Commons) applies to their submission.

    Templates (for example):
            a bunch of samples
            a single long recording
a preset for a standard machine
            an arp using jeskola arpeggio
            a chord progression

Templates are submitted to one person/program who doesnt look at them, and sends the completed pack out to everyone at the same time. The deadline is then in exactly one week's time, and you can sumbit your entry as any format that will open in buzz, either in the wavetable or by template/bmx to the organiser. Templates will be made available on the forum along with the entries after the deadline has passed.

Agreed Machines (should work from build 1421-current ?, be stable..)
    ---------------
base machines in new build install (ie, jeskola ones)
    matile tracker 2
infector, green milk, kyrie, wood one, earth plate, whitenoiz synths,
    current Blok + Blok FX
    wde notebook
ld0d drums, ers drums, FSM Kick (+XP), freebase, fudrum 3
joachip's effects: venus, hyperion, mars 2, jupiter 3, multi 2, tethys 1.3, saturn, chopper 1, powerpan, compressor v4
    chorus: phatman, corpse (+senior), chord
delay: unwieldy delay 3, hd combo delay, fsm panzer delay
    distortion: pampurfe, stereodist
filter: hilopass, philty, wahpro2, zephod's colour series
    reverb: funkyverb, halyverb
    etc: stereobox (pro), genre, nada
mixing: paramEQ, mixio, channel strip, ld gate, transient 2, automaton and fuzzpilz compressors
latest IX peers and his versions of samplegrid + btd peers
free vsts? (must be stable with latest polac)

Machine list isn't final, please suggest what you would want to use below over the next two days and then I'll get us started by organising the first one. Given it would be a bit unfair for me to see and check all the entries before anyone else, I won't join in this one.

So who wants to play?

sound good.

we could do a compo with a given set of samples and allowed machines.
or just a limited set of machines (like 2 generators + 2 effects) that can be used multiple times and no samples.
also a max. tune duration of x:xx minutes to keep it even more interesting.

Sure, but that's another compo for another day :P no reason there can't be multiple ones, or that the rules for this one cant change later, but I want to see if this'll work :)

Ok, this seems to be an acceptible list of machines to everyone. If you think I've missed a stable one that you want to use, let me know when you submit...

Template submissions should be made as so:
  • PM me your entry as a link to the template file.
Include a WDE Notebook machine called "info" with your name, comments, and anything you want to plug in it.
I'll reply with the full pack and deadline once we get enough entrants.

GO!

I'll prolly use linplug alphafree, Tal fx's and Tal synths. All are stable. If you use a vsti please include it in the template *.zip of course duh.

As long as it's stable its fine! I just couldnt go and check every machine by myself  So pulsar is allowed.

I don't think it matters that much what machines you use, as long as they're considered stable and common..

utrk 2 would be welcome :) I regret having made that list, I was just trying to get people to think about other buzzers openning the template.

I wish there was more news to give, but really at the moment it would be just a collaboration rather than a compo.. it's a shame given how high quality the templates I'm sitting on are, even if they use wildly unstable machines like my own ;) I'll try to hound a few more people into it this week.

Just select the machines you want in the template and drag them onto the template panel on the right. (templates has to be selected rather then machines or parameters) You can then select whether you want the patterns, sequences, and samples put in the template too. It'll output an xml file in "my documents\buzz\templates" that you can send me :) I'll happily make the templates out of a bmx as well though.
