Bunch of Blok LFO questions + Hello

Post by roon »

Hi. Me be Roon and I am new here, obviously, yet not new to Buzz - been using it on and off for last ten years, almost to a day (don't ask how I know that, let's just say buzz was THAT big of a breaktrough :P). I am professional seaman by trade, so no constant internet for me, so I need to apologise in advance for highly irregular popping in with some dum questions and no real input, but unfortunately this is in job description. Anyways, hope You'll enjoy my (stuttered) stay :)

Okay, time to cut the crp.
My first question is simple really - how can I make LFO retrigger with every note, so it'll get more predictable/regular? Will connecting impulse generator to LFO's freq be enough? Or something else entirely, perhaps? Now I got it more or less synchronised to 1.33 hz(1/4) in 80bpm, but everytime the Lfo starts at different point, and i don't like it running free ;)

Question number two: If I get LFO to retrigger like I want it using above idea, how can I delay the cycle, so it won't start with note on but, say, two ticks later. Can a simple delay unit between impulse and LFO do the trick? Or are the modifiers purely for audio?

As I said in the begining - dum questions :)
But thanks in advance!

Blok is really cool, but it's not fully featured like Reaktor. I don't think you can retrigger the LFO, but maybe I'm wrong.

not a good comparison, reaktor isn't just a modular synth. blok is a modular synth, period... and it is quite flexible.

anyways...there are other ways possible, but the most typical way you'd do it with a modular (sans retrig input on lfo module) is a looped envelope - which in blok equates to a retrig'd custom lfo with drawable waveshapes (+ a sustain point (hold) if you want it..which is crafty):

If you have the VST, look at the Lush Pad preset.

Very cool! I'll keep that in mind. BLOK is certainly one of my favorite native Buzz plugins.

Sorry for the misinformation.

Is there a way to automate the ADSR envelope? For example if I want to start with a short release and then gradually increase it.

Not with the standard envelope but you can do it with the advanced envelope. Just connect the release to an ext knob...

Code: Select all

[Patch]<?xml version="1.0" standalone="no" ?><storables><BLOCK ID="3" TYPE="4" X="150" Y="40" POS="1" P0="0.500000" P1="0.500000" P2="0.500000" /><BLOCK ID="5" TYPE="0" X="390" Y="37" POS="2" P0="0.500000" /><BLOCK ID="9" TYPE="55" X="263" Y="173" POS="3" P0="0.100000" P1="0.200000" P2="0.400000" P3="0.500000" P4="1.000000" P5="0.000000" P6="0.500000" P7="0.500000" P8="1.000000" P9="0.000000" P10="0.500000" P11="0.500000" P12="0.000000" P13="0.500000" P14="0.000000" P15="0.500000" P16="0.500000" P17="0.000000" /><BLOCK ID="11" TYPE="13" X="50" Y="179" POS="4" P0="0.000000" /><BLOCK ID="15" TYPE="26" X="119" Y="179" POS="0" P0="1.000000" P1="1.000000" /><CONNECTION ID="8" FROM="1" TO="2" INPUTID="0" /><CONNECTION ID="14" FROM="3" TO="1" INPUTID="1" /><CONNECTION ID="17" FROM="4" TO="0" INPUTID="0" /><CONNECTION ID="18" FROM="0" TO="3" INPUTID="3" /></storables>
Edit: added a rescale so the knob runs from 0-1.

I'm not seeing the advanced envelope, and buzz crashes when I try to load that patch. Maybe my BLOK version is out of date.

You need this one...
Zephod-[Blok]-Modular-Buzz-(SVN-X2)-beta

Also, cast your eyes over here...

That is exactly what I needed! And FX too (was that there before?)! Thanks IXix (and Zephod of course)

I'm not sure how much lag there is between the last official release and the latest beta but I think the FX version was a fairly recent addition. I was talking to Zephod this afternoon and he said that there should be a new beta sometime soon, although it won't be backwards compatible as he's improved/changed a bunch of stuff. Keep an eye on his Facebook. :)

thanks for posting this! I didn't know about the new beta, this looks awesome.

the blok fx editor seems to have the same options as the blok generator (generate, control, modify, output, etc.). Is this just the current state of the blok fx beta or did i install it incorrectly? (i put it in gear/effects).

It has input and stereo input blocks too.
