Core i7

Post by boombaxx »

I have noticed lately my i5 4670k is not cutting it. Is the i7 4790k worth the 100 quid upgrade

May I ask, what machines are eating all your processorpower? Would you care to share a screenshot of your tracks?

It is not so much synths as efx that takes up the majority of cpu cycles in my tunes.

Yeah that's definitely some heavy lifting (especially the [lovely] PolyKB). I've not looked for a while whether this is turned on by default, but have you checked that all the processors in your machine are being used, and had been set to Time Critical Priority: http://buzzwiki.robotplanet.dk/index.ph ... uzz#Engine

couple of ways you could go, you could render out the loops with the fx and play them back, that's the oldskool way to do it XD

I make most things on a mobile i7 3.2 ghz and don't have any issues, but I don't use that many vst fx.

Definitely seems worth the upgrade, but you would probably end up just adding more fx and pushing it harder. but i'm always in favor of buying bigger kit
