Hi all,
Haven't used Buzz in a long time but have been asked to update/recreate a tune I made some while ago.
But it seems like the latest Buzz version can't read the patterns/sequences, there is nothing in either pattern or sequence view.
Is there a way to fix these old BMX files or if not is there a tool to export the patterns?
Or is there an archive location with an old enough Buzz version?
The tune is from 2001
Thanks in advance.

Re: Old BMX files, missing patterns and sequences
This has to do with PatternXP versions usually. First check to see if you have the Oskari version of PatternXP and only use that. When it translates to a new pattern editor from the default one like the WDE or Chahur one the data does not always end up in an interchangeable format. Next thing I would do is look at debug log, if some machines are missing it can cause patterns to not load.
Re: Old BMX files, missing patterns and sequences
Thanks for the suggestions.
Have since I wrote the post recreated the song...mostly
How can I check the PatternXP version?
Have some issue getting Matilde Tracker to work, can't load the .dll.
On the other hand I've mostly redone the song anyway.

Re: Old BMX files, missing patterns and sequences
Is it a fresh installation?
when i startet to use buzz again, i found out, that the instalaltion seems to be faulty
i figured out, that one machine (have to do some research) was in the wrong folder (eg. an generator that was located in effects)
i guess it was the 11 FM Machine... that was located as an effect but i cant remember
this caused a few songs to not load up. i changed the folder and it worked again
never thought fresh installation was the issue

unlikely, these machines are not part of the official buzz installer, did you install into an existing folder maybe? or use some third party installer?F-André wrote: ↑Thu Dec 14, 2023 9:43 am Is it a fresh installation?

Maybe it's better install the one you can download at
http://jeskola.net/buzz/beta/files/setu ... up1503.exe
and add machines you need from :
https://buzz.robotplanet.dk/
Or use the Buzzmachines_Massive_Pack_Feb2004.exe and / or :
BM_UpdatePack_Feb2004.exe
I have these on my Drive. There is also a more recent Buzzpack :
Buzz_Complete_BigPack_Jun-2011
I have it too.
Or you can :
- Import the bmx instead of Open. Sometimes it works.
- Check in Pattern Editor that you are using <built-in>. This is the original Pattern Editor.
You can use various tools like :
- buzz2midi (export patterns of each instrument as midi file)
- BuzzHelper a tool that let you modify or correct bmx/bmw
- ParamFix.exe fixes broken Buzz songs that use by renaming the "PARA" section in the .bmx file. Use it in a DOS box.
I have these utilities. Would be cool to have these files somewhere like at robotplanet.
