How to make bassy sounds

I admit that I suck at all stages of musicproduction but an area where I suck a lot extra is in the bassound area. If anybody would share some tips for creating basslines and bassounds I'd be greatful. Please don't just say use qsamo or Corona. I need a little more in depth.

If you want really deep bass, use a sine wave. I know that sounds overly simple. However, you can apply a very light distortion to a sine wave and it will have a really nice bass sound. If you have a bass sound that is not bassy enough, try layering a sine wave (another synth usually) an octave below. Keep in mind as well, the secret to good sounds is movement, so get your envelopes and lfos tweaked appropriately.

i make all my bass with cheese of the week.

for a good basic sub:
sine wave in the first slot (optional add ~10% feedback)
second slot, square wave

LP12 filtered down to between 80hz-120hz

put saturation or jeskola limiter after in the chain

also to get a punch out of it, do a mod envelope with pitch affecting all no attack, short decay1, long decay 2 no sustain and with an envelope depth up to +69%

Mixing in a sine wave, esp tuned to -12, is good for a nice deep bass, as mentioned. For a "pluck" kind of bass use a sawtooth with a fast attack and a relatively fast decay on a LP filter.
I tend to use VSTi's quite a bit (free ones only)

BlauKraut Engineering Charlatan has some good bass presets to look at. It's a really good sounding synth, and has some presets that you can look at to see how they're put together
