Article about Mastering

Post by magmavander »

Hello,

I have found a zip file with an article from a guy called Galactic Boy about Mastering.
I'm not sure but maybe I have already posted it here...

I hope it will be useful for some of you ;) :shock:

This is definitely one of the most important tips, not just for Buzz but any DAW (or just recording in general!):
3) Turn the volume sliders on your generators DOWN! My rule of thumb (this doesn't necessarily have to be your rule of thumb) is too turn the master volume down just a smidgen, and I adjust the volumes so that the meter rarely goes in the red. Some generators (Jeskola basses and MX7 to name two) seem to have really loud outputs. If you're using distortion, you'll probably need a limiter, which I'll get into more in a future article.
Was only in the last couple of years I really learnt about 'proper' gain-staging and completely revolutionised the quality of my mixes - I personally aim for around -10db peak at pretty much any stage of the mix to give myself tonnes of headroom until the *very* last stage of the final master

Ha ha, THAT's really virus secure, Thanx! :lol:

@mcpete
I use -18 db RMS for first stage and -0.5 db peak for limiter in masterline (true peak headroom). In between I increase the signal each stage a bit for better signal/to noise.

arrgh, just one try. thought it sounds quite similar, funny, in the 3rd trial I hat 0= accuracy (!). The curve was completely flipped. Probably some psychoacoustic trap :lol: Your result is brilliant. How many tries ;) ?

in the first try :P

...but to be honest im not satisfied at all, because i am hobby sound engineer/producer in the local radio station. Now I can blame it on poor speakers and room acoustics in the bedroom :lol:

You are the best! I am not surprised, when I play your bmx, I often see a very good balance of the tracks, and a good mix with a minimal gear.
Congratulations 8-)
