Buzz on Linux

Post by commadore65 »

Thought I should make a new thread for this as it is now usable.

Only tried in Manjaro. If you use just Arch, despite your ascension to an all energy being this will probs work also if you want to frequent the mortal realm.

Wine tricks installed was using 64bit prefix by default (using 86x buzz as opposed to 64bit), open terminal to add .net 4.

winetricks dotnet40

Follow the installer.

Also added Core Fonts

winetricks corefonts

installed software.

wine "./Downloads/BuzzSetup1503.exe"

Install buzz.

So far have managed to install new PVST and install various VSTs and VSTis. There are slight graphical errors that will generally disappear after a window resize. The type menu in the machine view is a bit dodgey (right hand list search works fine).

Couldn't use newly developed things such as AudioBlock yet, so if that already features highly in your workflow that will be an issue.

Would be keen to find out install success of others that try it from diff distros etc.

Here's an idea sketch I made using Buzz in Linux with some fairly unstable (wily) machines - https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Nu2Gyw ... sp=sharing

I followed your way of installing buzz on ubuntu 20.04 and it works, the only problem is that buzz.exe uses too much CPU while doing nothing...

Not got it as bad as you (showing about half what you have), but there is still a constant for me also. Guess it's pointless if it can't out perform a VM :| ...

Was a bit caught up in the fact it ran for the first time in all these years to be honest.

I used Linux as my main os for years - until new Buzz and the touchscreen support in Windows 8.

I quite like Windows 10, but we'll see what 11 is like - I'd be tempted to go back if Buzz worked well in Wine!

Something like WINE might be necessary when everyone goes RISC. Although suppose Microsoft could do a good "rosetta" equivalent.
