I am back to Buzz after a good 10 year gap, before which I was using it for years, producting music and delving very deep into it.
Reasons for quitting was the ever more frequent freezing, unstability and general unreliable-ness of the whole stuff and the fact that Jeskola gave it up (and the way of it)
and I felt sorry as it was very good.
Moved on to Renoise, closest to what tracking is, and yet a modern and reliable DAW.
Now as I was coming back I saw quite a development on it and was shocked how strong the thing sounds. So I'm considering to use it for serious work.
I don't see a FAQ section here, and I'd like to get a picture of how Buzz stands up as a music production environment with today's VST's, controllers etc.
It is now January 2015. If anyone could hint at where to start, are there still loads of freezing or unstable machines to avoid, etc, etc, I'd appreciate it.
Thanks!

Re: freezing machines, there are some things blacklisted in the gear.xml (I believe)

I've run into a couple crashes, but everything is really stable these days. VST support is probably better than in most DAWs.
I'd recommend you get the latest Polac VST loaders, the new Pattern XP mod, and most importantly MixIO (a great visual mixer)

The Wiki is worth a browse.liftman wrote:If anyone could hint at where to start
One great thing compared to how it was with old Buzz is that if you do happen to use a buggy machine, just the machine will crash and not the whole program. Makes it a lot easier to tell where the problem is coming from to be able to look for "Crashed" marked in red in the machine vieware there still loads of freezing

Indeed. And not only is Polac's VST loader the absolute bomb for using VSTs, it loads Buzz machines as well (enabling MIDI, Preset Factory, program changes ...)mridlen wrote:VST support is probably better than in most DAWs.
informative thread, with download links (recommended to subscribe to thread in order to be alerted to new releases)I'd recommend you get the latest Polac VST loaders,
now included in the distro, if i'm not mistakenthe new Pattern XP mod
Re: returning to buzz since 2004
I am also returning, after 6yr hiatus (started using Buzz around 1999). Stopped music because of work, a few Buzz frustrations and probably gaming, truth be told. Back after feeling like that itch to make noises never really went away. Luckily didn't sell the KRKs and having a good gaming PC gives me some more Buzz power than before. It's reassuring that Buzz community is still active. So, just curious about a few things:
Is there a recent Index for machine menu?
Other than the blacklist on the wiki, is there any other lists of machines to avoid? I have a menu with Danger! So maybe this is still relevant?
I previously used Buzz with Reaktor and Kontakt. Before I invest time and money on NI, how compatible is Buzz with NI these days? Are there better alternatives on Buzz or elsewhere?
What do people use instead of MySpace? This is kind of tongue-in-cheek, but I did use MySpace for networking, checking out new music and putting up my own music.
