Bug Report - Ctrl-E crashes Buzz

Post by mridlen »

Ctrl-E crashes Buzz sometimes.

I use Dvorak keyboard layout, not sure if that matters.

I haven't identified any correlation with VSTs or native Buzz machines.

Let me know if I can provide any other potentially helpful diagnostic info.

Machine view or pattern view?
Which version of buzz, 32 or 64 bit?
A theme?
A windows version?

I get no problem with no combinations of above - except I use the polish programmers layout of keyboard.
I work under a Windows XP Proffesional x64 Edition.

Just had it crash again on me... here are my machines and VST:

MinimogueVA
TubeHead (stereo)
Sonic Verb
Samplegrid BETA 3
Ninja Delay (stereo)
MixIO

Crashes are song view only.

32 bit Buzz.

Aero theme.

Windows 7 Professional 64 bit.

Thanks for your time.

Crashed again on ctrl-E once again with very few machines running.

Machines/VST:
BLOK
reacomp
Ozone 4
MiniMogueLUXUS-TD
Philthy
KickXP

Caps lock happened to be on. I don't think it mattered.

Steps to recreate:
1) Load up one of the MiniMogueVA variants.
2) I created a pattern that outgrew the end of the song.
3) go to the end of the pattern and press ctrl-E

I'm wondering if this is a problem with Buzz, MinimogueVA or Polac VST, because it doesn't seem to do this with other VSTs.

Polac VSTi loader version 1.1.10b (bulid 15)... wonder if that's the problem.

I will continue my investigation. :)

UPDATE: Updated to the latest VSTi loader 1.1.10b (bulid 27) and the issue persists

It's doing it again :( . Here's some diagnostic info that is presented:

Problem signature:
Problem Event Name: BEX
Application Name: buzz.exe
Application Version: 1.0.0.1
Application Timestamp: 51d44cb3
Fault Module Name: StackHash_64cd
Fault Module Version: 0.0.0.0
Fault Module Timestamp: 00000000
Exception Offset: 00000000

Additional Information 3: ea44
Additional Information 4: ea44cc15dda21fc55566b638cd6bd10e

I close that and this pops up:

Problem signature:
Problem Event Name: APPCRASH
Application Name: buzz.exe
Application Version: 1.0.0.1
Application Timestamp: 51d44cb3
Fault Module Name: msvcrt.dll
Fault Module Version: 7.0.7601.17744
Fault Module Timestamp: 4eeaf722
Exception Code: c0000005
Exception Offset: 000195c2

Additional Information 3: feb7
Additional Information 4: feb7fc1b4ccfe33f19ad35c220a990e4

This is occurring with all MiniMogue variants when pressing Ctrl-E, but it does not occur when when right clicking and selecting set end.

My exact steps to reproduce:

1) machine view -> side bar -> Machines tab
2) type "mini" and drag the MinimogueLUXUS or MinimogueVA (it does not matter which) over to the machine view
3) click the sequence view
4) click on the 64 row and press Ctrl-E

Sounds like there's a buffer overflow somewhere in the plugin and window's Data Execution Prevention kills it.
