Adding to Vst Parameter list.

When using Vst's, how do I add a new parameter to the list? For example: the parameter list for Kontakt only has auto-generated parameters for the master controls (volume, pan, tune). If I load an instrument in Kontakt, how would I then add parameters for that instrument's particular controls?

Neither method works. I am also unable to assign any of my keyboard's controls to a parameter, though I can assign them to the controls on the GUI . I have MIDI: Receive CC & MIDI: Receive Note active. Are there other particular settings I need for this to work?
