Windows 11 Display Issue

Hello everyone!

It's been a while since I've had a chance to stop in, but it's great to be back. I hope everyone is doing well & are still Ready To Rok.

I've got a question regarding 32 Bit Buzz Build 1503 & Windows 11. Now I know Win11 has some funky quirks & I've tried to troubleshoot this issue via Microsoft Help & other reliable tech troubleshooting sites, but to no avail (tho, I was able to solve a couple of related but non-Buzz issues  ). I had a look through the forum & couldn't find any posts regarding this issue, so I hope others who might have experienced this might have solved it or found some way to mitigate the problem. Reading up on the troubleshooting it seems Win11 has issues with DPI scaling, & I suspect that this is where the root of the problem lies. So, if anyone can help, I'd be grateful indeed!

So what's the issue? Well, I recently installed Buzz on my new laptop & am in the process of getting it setup. However, I'm having some crazy display issues that are really annoying. Basically, some functions & machines are not displaying properly in Buzz. Some things are too tiny to even read, while others are so large they overflow the screen. Again, I suspect this is a DPI scaling issue, but changing things in my Windows settings hasn't helped fix the issue within Buzz.

To show you an example of what I'm talking about, here's a couple of screenshots:

Image
Peer Control Assignment Window - Fills the entire screen

Image
Pattern View - Scaling is all wrong

Here's some of my tech specs to hopefully troubleshoot this issue:
  • CPU: 13th Gen Intel Core i7-1355U
    Windows 11 Version: 10.0.26.100
Video Adapater: Intel Iris Xe Graphics
    Video Memory Size: 2 GB
    Refresh Rate: 60 Hz
    Screen Size: 1920 x 1080px
Windows Screen Resolution: 100% (not the recommended 125%, which is part of the DPI scaling issue, according to what I've read elsewhere)
Buzz Version: 32 Bit, Build 1503
Buzz Theme: A custom modified version of Mire's iLike Machines (which always worked fine in Win10).
All Hardware Drivers: Up to date
Again, any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Scaling is a bit of a nightmare.

My Buzz 32 is mostly sensible but I couldn't explain why. My windows scaling is 125% and I don't seem to have any special settings for compatibility. My screen resolution is the same as yours. Some old VST interfaces are unusably tiny (Oatmeal for example) but newer ones don't seem that different. Weird that PeerCtrl is so wrong.

It took a while to get things straight in Reaper when I got this machine (Win10 and HiDPI) but I haven't had to adjust anything since it upgraded to Win11. I'm slightly confused by all the Win11 hate I see as it doesn't really seem like anything much has changed.

It did become clear when I got it that trying to continue with anything 32bit would be somewhat painful though, so I just bit the bullet and went all 64. I still have Buzz 32 and Reaper 32 and they still work but I don't make anything new with them anymore, I just keep them for opening up old stuff because opening 32 projects in 64 apps is a world of pain.

The fix that worked for me (running Windows 11 at 4k resolution, scale 200% ):

Close Buzz
In explorer/my computer find the buzz.exe executable file
-right click -> select 'properties'

On the new window:
-click the 'compatibility' tab and at the bottom click 'Change settings for all users'
click 'Change high DPI settings' at the bottom

On the new window:
-Tick 'Program DPI' and on the dropdown bow below that tick box select 'I signed in on Windows'
-Tick 'High DPI scaling override', on the dropdown below select 'System' (not 'System (enhanced) )

Click the 'OK' buttons at the bottom of each window to apply those settings.

Then cross fingers. :D

This was me finding the above out back in 2020 when I just got the new laptop - viewtopic.php?p=15094

Thanks for the replies, both of you.

@mcbpete, I tried all of those settings & even re-booted, but to no avail :( Maybe I'll play around with the other options in the compatibility tab & see if anything works.

I'm still not getting anywhere with this. I've tried multiple settings in the Windows Compatibility dialogue, but nothing seems to fix the oversized window dialogues issue. Looking at all the fixes online, it seems that they only increase the display scale, but this does nothing when the scaling of only certain window dialogues are already too large :?

What's annoying is all of the other Peer Control Windows are scalable via clicking & dragging the window edges (i.e.: Mixer GUI, X&Y Pad, &c…), but the Assignments window is not. I checked the BTDSys Sourceforge site & noticed that I'm running an older version of Peer Control (v.1.5), but when I installed the newer version available from Sourceforge (v.1.6) I get a machine load error:

So it looks like v.1.5 is my only choice (unless someone knows a fix for this load error)

Two steps forward, three steps back…

There's some other machines that I'm having similar problems with, but for the most part I can work around them. But Peer Control is sort of essential with its ability to allow MIDI devices to interface with Buzz (how I mainly use it). Unless there's a better way to have Buzz talk with my MIDI controllers…

So I'm a bit at a loss at the moment… Any further suggestions/help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance :!:

Is PVST in 64Bit Buzz able to load 32Bit VSTs?

I ask, because all of the HG Fortune VSTi's I use live (as well as some other VSTs that are my go-tos) are all 32Bit & will never have 64Bit versions (HG Fortune unfortunately passed away many years ago, leaving us with a huge library of awesome VSTi's still available on archive.org).

If it will load 32Bit VSTs, maybe I'll just bite the bullet & switch over to Buzz 64Bit…

The only thing that seems to work is setting the Windows Display Scaling setting to 125%. Any other scaling size over-scales (to coin a term) the Assignment Dialogue Window. It's still large at 125%, but it's usable at least, moreso than at my normal 100% scaling setting. I might just have to switch between 100% & 125% when wanting to adjust settings in Peer Control. Kind of annoying, but at least it's something workable.

That's because you're missing a Microsoft C++ Redistributable package. I built that 1.6 dll and looking at the date on it I'd guess I used VS2010, so try the 2010 redist first and if that doesn't fix it try the 2008.

Having said that, there's a strong chance you might be best off installing all of them.

I'm assuming I want the x86 versions since I'm running the x86 version of Buzz, even though I'm on a 64Bit Win11 machine, right?

Just checking…

Thanks for all the help :!: :)
