I would like to axe your help on something

Here's the deal - I used to be able to send MIDI out from my computer to hardware synths using Polac MIDI Out & a MIDISport cable. That was on my XP computer with an old Buzz build.

A few months ago I switched over to a notebook with Windows 7 Starter Edition, & began following the most recent Buzz builds. And I have not been able to get MIDI out to work. I have the most recent midivst.dll & things installed, but using the default WASAPI driver it just gives an error when I put MIDI out in a song. When I use the Polac ASIO driver, it doesn't give an error but the notes seem to not be sending out any MIDI data.

Any idea what this might be? I used MIDI-OX to test a while back & it didn't see any MIDI signals going in or out, so maybe this is something outside of Buzz.

you have to use polac asio (or any of the other polac output drivers) for midivst.dll

make sure you have the latest version

Far as I can tell I have the latest version of everything. I'll try some of the other Polac drivers, see if they do anything. The fact that MIDI-OX isn't seeing anything does make me suspicious, though, that this issue may lie with the MIDISport driver.

Okay, I tested MIDI-OX again & this time it did send/receive signal (I think I had the wrong option selected before), but still nada in Buzz.

hm, make sure its not selected as midi output in buzz

whats the name of the midi output machine you use ? <yourdevicename> midi port ?

also, does midi in work ?

Wait, don't put the device as MIDI output?.....oh, it works now! Well, mostly. There does seem to be a bit of weirdness still (the MS10 seemed to be doing a sustained sine drone on its own for a few seconds), but I've got the notes going out now so that's gravy.

How do you update the list of devices that MIDIVST gives? Right now it only shows "Internal MIDI" for me, even though "MIDI Send" from Polac VSTi shows at least 8 different options.

I posted this question in another thread, so I hope that it's alright that I ask it here as well.

UPDATE: Found the MIDIVST answer eventually - just took more searching than usual.

And here's my step-by-step, based on that.

- Right click on a PVST or PVSTi in your session
- Click on "Preferences"
- Select the "Global 2" tab
- Select "Scan Shell" and select either "midivst.dll" or "midivst.x64.dll"
- Click "OK" in the dialog that pops up.
- Click "OK" in the preferences panel.
- Close Buzz.
- Restart Buzz.

The list should now include all your MIDI devices.
