New tracker - Ultra DAW

Post by Grids »

This looks interesting and I thought some people may be interested.

It looks a bit like renoise but also has vertical waveforms and other interesting features. It is still in development (no VST3 support) but looks interesting.

thanx Grids for the link!

wow, looks very impressive and professional. Only one person did it? incredible.

Beside renoise, which the coder had in mind, the screenshots remind me a bit to ReBuzz, too. But the buzz workflow is missing 😉

What I am a bit jealous about is the elaborated piano roll and the claimed portability.
Anyway, I will give it a try for sure.

Did you try it?

It does look really good, I wonder why it's only available through email ?

Definitely would be intrigued to use it - though no VST3 support for a new DAW seems a bit strange given VST2s SDK discontinuation by Steinberg , hopefully it'll come sometime in the near future

I haven't used it. It is in early stages and feel I will wait until it is more stable. The lack of VST3 support is a problem. It is really nice to see tracker software being expanded although I always worry that new software will fade out like Skale tracker, Aodix, Mad Tracker, Psycle, Bero Tracker, Buzzle, Darkwave studio etc.

I am a bit suspicous, too. Nobody in the forum installed it.
In the renoise forum the author posted about his tracker seeking for beta testers. At least one person gave feedback, but who knows....
I better wait

Seems like there was an update yesterday with initial VST3 support ( http://mak-sa.net/software/2025/05/11/v ... supported/ ) has anyone tried it yet ?

Last week someone also told me about this project from James Holden (only time I've ever heard Buzz mentioned outside of forums - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GtwJWhXceVg&t=30s ) called benny: https://www.playbenny.com/

Seems like a hybrid between Buzz and SunVox and audiomulch, not had any time playing with it yet other than launching it and fumbling [unsuccessfully] with the UI :D

Benny looks really interesting. Thanks for sharing. I'm interested how it goes with VST plugins. I found this section - https://playbenny.github.io/benny_manua ... figuration but I can't see if it accepts VST3.

Yep it does, it uses Max for all its major functionality so basically has the same plugin support as what Max does. Managed to finally get noises from it yesterday but might be a bit too complicated for my stupid brain

Ah no way. You can download it without having to beg the authors permission now?

Still needs a few more hours baking in the oven I think. Adding a VST2 folder path through the file browser instantly causes the app to terminate, adding the paths manually is OK but then it doesn't actually scan them !

The Amiga mouse pointer replacement is a fun touch, though I'm not 100% sold on the rest of the GUI design - bit too early 00s with all the gradient-y icons and boxes (everything is a little small on my 4k display too, could do with a GUI scaling option)
