Anyone else recently having difficulties getting Buzz to even start?

Post by Mozart von Robot »

I reboot. I try to start buzz. An error message pops up, something about the pattern sequencer XP thing not working, and there are VST's missing. So I close and I try to open it again to see if it fixes itself. It doesn't start at all. I check the task manager. It's there. I wait. Nothing. I force end process tree. I try to start it again. Nothing. I try to install Buzz on top of itself to try to fix whatever file is broken. Install gets stuck on deleting buzz.exe. Oh, right, task manager. I force end process tree and complete the install. I try to start Buzz. Nothing. Task manager says it's running. It's clearly not.
Anyone else having this, or know what could be done about it? Has Windows just falsely detected "suspicious" .dll files and deleted them without my permission and thus bricked Buzz? Is Windows "vibe coding" enshittification just progressing to the point of uselessness? Or is this just my computer having some random issue?

If you are using Windows 11 then look for Smart App Control and windows driver blocking. I for myself had to reinstall W11 after blocking of Rebuzz and Latencymon. So good luck.

Is this a fresh install of Buzz and/or the Polac VST loader and you have quite a large collection of plugins? The reason I ask is that I've got a silly number (>2000) of VSTs and if on the rare occasions I need to clear the Polac VST database, the next restart of Buzz will take a very long time to load without looking like it's actually loading (on Buzz there will be no splash image, on ReBuzz it'll be 'stuck' on 'So Many Instruments') - By 'long time' I'm meaning something like 45 minutes to an hour.

The same thing (although considerably shorter than the 45 minutes, closer to 15 seconds...) might happen if I've also updated or installed a lot of new plugins since last launching Buzz

The only way I can tell my machine hasn't locked up and it is indeed chugging through the plugins is to have Process Monitor (https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/sysin ... ds/procmon ) on in the background with the filter 'Process Name' ->'contains' 'scan' and it should show what dll Polac is currently scanning/indexing

I'm using regular Buzz (not ReBuzz), but no real problems here. My last laptop I had problems with the keyboard driver or something which was making my audio stutter though, and maybe I could've gotten Windows 11 and fixed it, but I ended up finding a relatively nice deal on a laptop so I got a new one, and the old one I can carry around places without worrying so much about damaging it. The old one plays audio fine if you run a Linux thumb drive, but I can't get Buzz to run so it's not the best solution. But at least I can listen to music on it (sometimes the keyboard locks up and starts going like 'aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa' until you restart though so maybe the keyboard problem is less the drivers and more the keyboard itself)
