i was kind of baffled today when i tried to save a preset using synth1 vst. it's loaded in pvsti, i played with some knobs, clicked presets>save. the preset is saved successfully in buzz/gear/vst/vsti/daichi synth 1/soundbank00.
when i click the preset button again, the preset menu does not show the preset i just saved, just the initial patch (i can load it manually with the load option in the preset drop down menu). how can i get my presets into this list for quick access? can i save them there by default?
If you want to have a quick access to your presets, I recommend you to create a new folder anywhere, for instance “My Synth1 presets » and to save them as fxp files via the Polac loader. So, you will use an exceptional feature of the loader (if you use another program that Buzz you will have the same thing by using his VST / VSTI Chainer), that is you will be able to review them without having to load them (preview!). These possibility is unique (I met it on no other DAW) and extremely useful. For instance,I classified my huge collection of Synth1 presets by categories and since I can preview my 891 basses, e.g., I quickly find what I want. You can use, of course, these feature with every VST plugin.
Look in that Soundbank00 folder. There are a bunch of .sy1 files in there, right? Along with the preset you saved, except that it is a .fxp file?
Use the 'write' button on the Synth1 GUI if you want to save presets with Synth1's special preset management system (.sy1 files).
When using PVST menus to save fxp (individual) and fxb (bank) preset files, you probably want to save them in the PVST data path (Preferences >>Data2 >> PVST Data Folder). Each VST/i gets its own folder under that path (for Synth1, the folder will be something like Synth1 VST {73563153}). Presets saved there can be accessed via Presets >> Favorites (you can use subfolders to organize presets along the lines of what beuze mentions).
As a side note, if select 'opt' on the Synth1 GUI you can check the 'select program from host' box to make all of the .sy1 presets show up in the PVST Presets menu.
EDIT: The main drawback to using PVST to manage presets for Synth1 is that you can't call up presets from your favorites collection using MIDI program change messages (or left/right arrow keys)
