My pc crasched, and I can't reinstall windows7, maybe something wrong in the bios, so i'm under linux, very cool OS but no Buzz, i want a new PC just for music, that means only for Buzz, i have some question, my project needs tons of samples, is it useful to have 16 go ram or more? What is the best cpu, i5, i7 or amd, motherboard? sorry for these technical questions, but i build my new pc now, a buzzmachine for my experiments, and i want a solid config, also is it better to have a sound card with a part inside, like my Terratec ews88mt?
What is the Buzz version executable under wine (i'm under linuxmint15 64bit), just for try if installation is not too complex?
PC for Buzz
Re: PC for Buzz
I don't really think a large amount of RAM matters that much. I had a couple of sticks of ram go bad on me, knocking me down to 8GB from the original 16GB and it made no perceptible difference. I use samples, soundfonts, and drumkits a lot, but I don't think they add up to even 1 GB. It might help if you are using VSTs with large sample banks.
Re: PC for Buzz
What you really want, is the fastest possible speed you can get per-core. The Intel i7 is great for Buzz (I run at 96000 hz samplerate) but I don't know if AMD has come up with something even wilder. 5-10 years ago AMD were ahead in floating point performance (and they had far less denormal issues), but right now I have a feeling that Intel is currently ahead. Good floating point performance is crucial to audio, and this is typically not tested well in benchmarks such as tomshardware etc, so reading reviews will tell you very little about audio performance.
Also, for audio you wanna keep your system clean and simple. Stuff that slows down the operating system, such as ad-ware scanners, malware scanners and virus scanners are bad. If you're running Vista or Windows 7, make sure to disable the "SuperFetch" service, which is supposed to speed up your system, but in real life it does the opposite. Basically I think you gotta get Windows 7 64-bit working. That is currently the best OS for Buzz.

Intel Core i7 and Intel Core Xeon win the top speeds out of many categories.
