Please help me figure out how to open these old buzz files.

Post by organic io »

Hi all! organic io here from SDCompo/Audio Tournament.

Currently one other user and I have undertaken the massive project of rendering all the songs from our 92+ rounds and uploading them to the internet archive. You can view our progress here:

https://archive.org/details/fav-sdcompo ... ompetition

Things are going OK, except Buzz entries are giving me the toughest time. I managed to successfully render some, and now I either forgot how I did it or it broke again.

The songs in question were written in the year 2007. Here is one from iddy that we can use for testing:
http://www.sdcompo.com/entry.php?e=275
The download includes the machines used, but also it uses some vst's which are in the pack here: http://www.sdcompo.com/samplepack.php . Click the dropdown box and go to Round 21 samplepack.

I've tried multiple versions of Buzz: 1480, 1479, 1051, 1500, even Buzé. I have problems with all of them.

The closest I got was with 1051, the plugins and vsti's worked, but for some reason no sound was coming out of the drums, which I guess is handled by Matilde tracker? (I'm a noob to Buzz)

When I load it in 1500/1480, it seems to want to work and loads all the vsti's, but for some reason the machines don't connect to each other and won't let you connect them. This is using the newest x86 Polac vsti.dll from the website.

If I try to use the polac vsti.dll included with the song, Buzz 1480/1500 gives me a message about "the polac vsti is too old".

Buzé doesn't seem to load the vsti's at all, I guess because it has a different way of handling the vsti's than Polac.

I even tried Legacy Buzz. When I can get it to not crash, for some reason there is no sound output.

So how can I load this thing properly? I'm guessing it has to do with the fact that the Polac version used from 2007 is too old and incompatible with newer Buzz versions. But why can't I hear any drums in version 1051? When I go into the sampler, you can play the notes so the samples are obviously there.

Please any help is GREATLY appreciated. I have spent so much time messing with this and I just can't figure it out. Really hoping there is an expert Buzz user out there who will know exactly what the problem is.

Thank you!

The song loads fine here with Buzz 1500/latest Polac adapter (http://www.xlutop.com/buzz/zip/beta/pvst_v1.1.10b30.zip)
You also need Matilde 1.5 (http://www.buzzmachines.com/machines/do ... &newid=108)

If the machines don't connect my guess is, that your gear folder is messed up. There probaly are generators in the effects folder or vice versa.

Yes! It works! Thank you SOO much!

 I had been copying the effects to the generators folder too just to be on the safe side, I didn't think it mattered. Obviously it does

:ugeek:

THANK YOU AGAIN!!!!

OK, I might have to do this on a song by song basis :(

What is wrong with this one:

http://www.sdcompo.com/entry.php?e=279

Same round, same vsti's... But when I load it, it pops an error about the vsti location:

"Sorry, plugin is missing", and then it has some wacky formatted path like DOS 8.1 days:
c:\progra~1\jesko~1\Gear\Vst\LazySnake\lazysnake.dll

So then it can't load it in the song, even though it worked fine in iddy's song.

I checked and the polac preferences are definitely configured to my Buzz1500\Gear\vst\ folder...

So what is up with this??

EDIT: I copied the vst folder to c:\program files\jeskola buzz\gear\vst\ (even though that's not my install location) and it loaded the lazysnake.

Next problem: It said something about MONO.dll missing and lee dragon's mono to stereo wrapper. I gather this has to do with the plugins that say (Stereo) at the end. I tried putting the mono counterparts in, but it wouldn't load them. So I deleted the stereo plugins and renamed the mono to have (Stereo) a the end.

Will this still give the same result ???? :) I hope so!!!

You can also put just a shortcut of the vst.dll into the vst directory you specified in the polac preferences.

I think renaming a mono effect to (stereo) might work, but won't give you the same results.
Alternatively place the mono versions into the effects folder and use the mono to stereo patcher.

Hey guys. I'm still working on this project. Hope to have it complete by April.

Currently I'm hung up on this song:
I've tried Buzz 1503, 1472, and 1051. I know better than to put my effects in my generators folder now. His zip file includes a version of Matilde 1.10rc1. I put it in my generators.

Still, nothing. It doesn't load 3 of the machines: MT.vocoder, MT.chorus, and MTrk.

I can't for the life of me figure out what I'm doing wrong!

Please help

Everything works fine here. Nice song by the way ;)
Maybe you need the msvcr71.dll or the msvcr100.dll in you root buzz folder (C:\Program Files (x86)\Jeskola\Buzz) ?
I uploaded it here in this thread as attached zipped file.
Or to register envelope ocx with the buzz fixkit (http://www.buzzmachines.com/utils/Buzzfixkit021217.zip) at buzzmachines.com ?
Snowglobe quote about ocx :
cancel when it asks you if you want to open the help file

setup -> check boxes : extract Stygmate's envelope.ocx & register envelope.ocx
run

I will try these things tonight! Thank you so much!

I already had the msvcr71.dll or the msvcr100.dll. I tried the buzz fixkit on version 1503 and 1472. No luck. Those same machines just won't load.

magmavander, is there any way you could do me a huge favor and render this to wav or flac and send it to me? I would be greatly appreciative!!!

No problem I'll render it to wav and upload it in my google drive this evening so you can download it.

There is a thing I dont understand. You say that you have put the Matilde 1.10rc1 (a.k.a Matilde3) in you gen folder so I suppose that that you think you used it in your song. But in the bmx I have opened it's the Matilde 1.9rc7 (a.k.a Matilde2) that is used...

See in attached file with this post I uploaded the Matilde2 (1.9rc7). Put it in your gen folder and open the bmx. Maybe this is the problem ?

Check also if you dont have put by mistake a Matilde dll in your effect folder.

It's not my own song, which is probably why I can't figure it out.

He included Matilde 1.10rc1 in his source file which is why I thought it was used with the module. Maybe he included the wrong one?

Anyway I really really appreciate you doing this!
