Pitch

Post by Tiadiad »

Hello, I used the Buzz pitch down function while working on a tune, really liked what happened (-12), build the whole track around that. Here's the problem: the whole song now sounds the way I meant for it to sound at -12 octaves, but Buzz will not record that way, it reverts everything to 0 pitch attenuation while using the HD recorder. I figured I'd just record that way, then send the whole song into a sampler in a new session and pitch the sampler down 12 octaves...that eats up a lot of the upper end harmonics and it doesn't sound as full bodied as it does in the original session. My question is: is there a way to record with the pitch function enabled, meaning that if my song is best at -12oct, I can set Buzz to -12 on the top bar and then record everything that way, without Buzz still playing it at 0 pitch correction?

Maybe export the wav as a >44.1KHz .wav and then resample it to the lower speed.

It's what we did for this - http://www.myspace.com/cubusmusic/music ... o-79212772 (I think I exported it as 88.2Khz first)

Sounds like a plan:) What would I use to lower down the samplerate?

Most DAWs (eg Reaper - http://www.reaper.fm ) allow you to render tracks down to 16bit/44.1Khz from the File -> Render menu.

Somebody suggested using two audio interfaces, and two computers. Just recording out of the first AI running Buzz through the second AI into a DAW on the second computer. I think I will try that.

That sounds rather convoluted for such a simple task. Did my method not work then?

Also AUDACITY can help you.
-From Buzz export your track on a wav files (HD recorder)
-Open Audacity (it is freeware and very good)
-Import your wav into Audacity
-Select the wav file (CTRL+A)
-From the Audacity menu go to Effect-->Change Speed
-Set the "Percent Change" to -25 .. -50 (try some values) , there is also the "preview" button for a check, then click OK
-Export the wav file
I have done this for many of my tracks.

For sure if Buzz could do this directly from HD Recorder it would be handy.

Ciao.

Thanks guys for your help. You got me thinking of different ways I could approach my dilemma:D I wanted to add the sound of the beach at the end of the song, so just used Pro Tools (I still prefer Buzz to PT, although Bro Tools rocks!) Tried the PT time stretching tool and it worked alright, added a bit of color in the highs, but at this point this song is a pain in my arse, so left it at that..Here's the file:
