I've been thinking of getting some kind of mini laptop (7" or so), possibly used (possibly to upgrade if necessary/possible), just to run Buzz (and pretty much nothing else) on, with a focus on portability. Has anybody got any advice on this subject?
I don't think, for these purposes, that I'd much mind a bit of latency, so I'm not necessarily thinking I'll need to be running ASIO drivers, although it couldn't hurt to know what the reasonable specs would be for both high and low latency, respectively (and for many machines and spartan use, respectively).
Would it still be reasonable, for example, to run Windows XP (or older), or is that becoming increasingly incompatible? What's the oldest version that still works?
Would it be potentially particularly problematic with VST's?
I'm thinking I probably won't have a lot of options for swapping the motherboard in a 7" machine, so I'm assuming that's the part that has to be good enough, whereas hard disk size is less of an issue, since that should be easy to replace. So the main question is regarding stuff like processor, or if anyone knows of a particularly suitable model to go for.
Price is as much a factor as compatibility and portability are.
I'm glancing mainly at the eeePC series.
What would be the minimum specs for running Buzz reasonably?

asio: just use asio4all with the onboard, works fine. or wasapi.
windows xp: not reasonable, no. win7 or 8 will achieve better performance on modern hardware.
7" laptops: most of those have an intel atom cpu, which is enough to power a few buzzmachines and some (very) light vst (old software in general), but sadly not most (recent) stuff worth using. I'd look for something with an i3 or i5. I had an EEE and it wasn't really enough for what i wanted to do.

Unfortunately, many VSTs have interfaces that won't fit on a netbooks screen.
I get away with Oatmeal on mine though.
